Tuesday's Homework: 10/20/15

Prosecution/Defense regardless of class:

Look at the first set of writings of Bartolome De Las Casas and look for 3 to 5 pieces of evidence using the graphic organizer and put it on page 53 Standard/43 Honors

Jury regardless of class: 

Read and annotate set first set of writings of Bartolome De Las Casas and answer the following questions on page 53 Standard/43 Honors

1. Why do you think Bartolomé de Las Casas wrote this account? To whom do you think he wrote it?

2. Whose opinions do you think were most prominent during the late fifteenth century: those of Columbus or those of de Las Casas? How and why?

3. How do this reading change your understanding of the consequences of European contact on the native people of the Western Hemisphere (especially if you grew up in Latin America)? Does this view make the Spanish explorers any less heroic? Why or why not? If yes, the how?


Standard Class:
