Read Columbus and Western Civilization by Howard Zinn and answer the following questions using as much evidence as possible with explanations:
1. Using the example of George Orwell, why does Howard Zinn believe that teaching about Columbus is important?
2. Why didn't Zinn know a lot about the Tainos?
3. What did Zinn learn?
4. What was the most interesting thing that you read? Explain.
5. Should we rethink Columbus and Columbus Day? What should we do to make a change as a class in local terms (within our city)?
