1. Take 18 to 25 key points on Page 36 of the notebook (No graphic organizer, but focus on criticisms
of how history is taught, the problems with textbooks, how history alienates minority students
and blind patriotism)
2. Questions to think about (these should be your guidelines for what key points to take)
. What are the physical problems with modern textbooks (including the danger they posed to the health
of students)?
. Why does the author believe that students in general (regardless of race, gender and ethnicity),
dislike history classes and history textbooks?
. Why does the author believe that minority students dislike history more than white students?
. What is the optimistic approach?
. What is blind patriotism?
. How does teaching the way history teaches and textbooks usually do, hurt our nation?
. What role does money play in what the author believes are terrible textbooks?
P.S. We will have a student lead discussion on Thursday (Connors Farm field trip on Wednesday)
