Click On Documents A-G and ONLY READ DOCUMENTS D, E & F. Answer the following questions on page 41 of the notebook:

1. What role does religion play in these documents? Explain and use evidence.

2. Why do you think that more Spanish Christians did not share Bartolome De Las Casas views? Explain

3. De Las Casas wrote these accounts fifty and sixty years respectively after Columbus initially arrived in Hispaniola. Do you think the intervening years may have influenced his perceptions? How and why? What happens when someone writes down an account after most of the consequences of an event are known? Explain.

4. In the Document, In Defense of Columbus, the historian argues that we should not use our modern morals to judge someone who lived 500 years ago.  Look at document F and then make both the case that he is correct and that he is wrong. Then explain, whether or not you agree with him.
